Replacing a Polycarbonate Conservatory Roof with Tiles: Is It Worth It?
Replacing polycarbonate with a tiled conservatory roof changes much more than appearance. The weight, thermal behaviour and daylight inside the room will change. The existing frame and foundations need to suit the proposed system.
Assess value before committing
- Compare comfort improvements with the remaining limitations of glazing and walls.
- Check the supporting structure and proposed roof connections.
- Include finishes, ventilation and approvals within the quotation.
Request a complete conversion specification rather than a covering-only price that assumes the rest of the conservatory is suitable.
Price the whole conversion
Include the structural design, roof system, insulation, ventilation, internal lining, rainwater details and making good in the proposal. Establish what assessments or approvals are needed before ordering. The contractor should explain which existing parts are retained and on what basis. Compare expected comfort improvements with any limitations remaining in the windows, walls and floor.
