How GRP Roofing Compares to Traditional Roofing Materials
GRP is a flat-roof waterproofing system, while slate and tiles generally work as coverings on suitably pitched roofs. Comparing them without considering roof geometry can be misleading. Start with the design the building can support.
Compare suitable alternatives
- For a flat roof, compare GRP with an appropriate felt or membrane system.
- For a pitched roof, assess covering choices against the actual pitch and structure.
- For a change in roof shape, obtain design and approvals advice first.
Choose between complete viable roof designs rather than trying to fit a preferred material to an unsuitable roof.
Preparation and handover matter
Ask the installer to identify the GRP system, its compatible substrate and the proposed treatment of deck joints, corners and trims. Suitable conditions are needed during application. At completion, retain the product details and photographs, and establish how the roof should be maintained and protected if another contractor needs access.
