GRP Roofing for Period & Modern Properties: What to Check
GRP may be suitable for a modern extension attached to a period property, but its junction with older masonry needs particular care. The age of the house does not by itself determine the covering. Roof form and visible appearance also matter.
Plan the old-to-new junction
- Assess the condition of walls and existing flashings.
- Allow for the proposed deck, insulation and upstand heights.
- Review any visible changes on a designated or sensitive building.
Use a complete design and compatible details rather than assuming a new coating can bridge every old junction.
Preparation and handover matter
Ask the installer to identify the GRP system, its compatible substrate and the proposed treatment of deck joints, corners and trims. Suitable conditions are needed during application. At completion, retain the product details and photographs, and establish how the roof should be maintained and protected if another contractor needs access.
