GRP Flat Roofs: Where They Work Well and What to Check
GRP can work well on an appropriately designed flat roof, but 'perfect for every roof' is too broad a claim. Deck condition, movement, drainage and intended traffic all need checking. Suitability should be demonstrated by the specification.
Where the decision is made
- Can a compatible dry substrate be provided?
- Can corners, upstands and outlets be detailed correctly?
- Does the selected system suit the size and intended use of the roof?
Choose a covering that fits these answers and compare alternatives where the roof presents unusual conditions.
Preparation and handover matter
Ask the installer to identify the GRP system, its compatible substrate and the proposed treatment of deck joints, corners and trims. Suitable conditions are needed during application. At completion, retain the product details and photographs, and establish how the roof should be maintained and protected if another contractor needs access.
