How Weather Impacts Tiled Roofs and How to Protect Yours
Weather tests a tiled roof through wind, water and repeated temperature changes. The roof needs suitable fixings and properly formed details to keep the individual units working together. A few damaged tiles may be repairable without full replacement.
Where weather-related defects appear
- Exposed edges and ridges can show movement after strong winds.
- Cracked tiles may allow water to reach the layers below.
- Blocked valleys or gutters can overwhelm otherwise sound coverings.
Have damage assessed with the surrounding fixings and drainage, not just the visibly broken units.
Check the complete roof specification
The quotation should identify the tile product, supporting layers and fixing arrangement, with suitable ridge, hip and verge details. Changes in tile weight or pitch suitability should be resolved before ordering. Where existing tiles remain, confirm that replacements are compatible rather than merely a similar colour. Ask for completion photographs of details that are difficult to inspect later.
